CIS leaders establish CIS Plus platform, grant observer status to SCO

According to Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Tajikistan’s CIS presidency focused on the process of improving the organization’s functioning

DUSHANBE, October 10. /TASS/. The leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have created the CIS Plus platform and granted observer status to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin told reporters.

"Today, the heads of state approved a decision to establish a new platform named CIS Plus and grant CIS observer status to the SCO," he said following a CIS summit in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.

"We are confident that these decisions will strengthen our organization’s international activities and enhance its image and representation on the global stage," the top diplomat added.

According to him, Tajikistan’s CIS presidency focused on the process of improving the organization’s functioning. "In this regard, active efforts were made to promote cooperation in boosting the positive image of the CIS on the international stage, particularly by expanding ties with the United Nations, the SCO and the Collective Security Treaty Organization," Muhriddin emphasized.

He also pointed out that the 2025 UN General Assembly had passed a resolution on cooperation with the CIS, initiated by Tajikistan.
