Preconditions for stabilization on Korean Peninsula in sight — CSTO secretary general

The Russian Foreign Ministry has reiterated Moscow’s stance, emphasizing that the resolution of issues on the Korean Peninsula must be pursued through political and diplomatic means

BISHKEK, May 19. /TASS/. Certain prerequisites for stabilizing the Korean Peninsula are in sight, which positively influences the broader region of Northeast Asia. Imangali Tasmagambetov, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), highlighted this reality during a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) Council in Bishkek.

"Some preconditions for stabilizing the situation on the Korean Peninsula have been outlined," he stated, "which contribute significantly to the overall stability of Northeast Asia."

The Russian Foreign Ministry has reiterated Moscow’s stance, emphasizing that the resolution of issues on the Korean Peninsula must be pursued through political and diplomatic means. This approach is rooted in mutual respect for sovereignty and considers the security interests of the DPRK. The Foreign Ministry underscored the importance of "unconditionally relinquishing bloc mentalities," taking "practical steps to de-escalate military and political tensions," and implementing confidence-building measures. These efforts are aimed at establishing an architecture of indivisible security across Northeast Asia.

The CSTO PA Council’s meeting is being held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, which will assume the organization’s chairmanship in 2025. The Council is currently chaired by Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma, who also presides over the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
