Washington unable to dictate terms to Tehran like it does to Kiev — Iranian MP

Abolfazl Zohrevand emphasized that Iran possessed significantly greater capabilities and potential than Ukraine, and that Donald Trump was well aware of that

DUBAI, April 2. /TASS/. The United States has miscalculated, believing it could dictate terms to Iran as it does in relations with Ukraine, according to Abolfazl Zohrevand, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

"The Americans are attempting to portray Iran as a weak nation through psychological operations, creating the impression that Tehran is prepared to accept all of [US President Donald] Trump's conditions due to its supposed weakness - much like [Vladimir] Zelensky did. However, this is not the case. They are mistaken," he stated in an interview with the IRNA news agency.

Zohrevand emphasized that Iran possesses significantly greater capabilities and potential than Ukraine, and that Trump is well aware of this.

On March 7, Trump announced on his Truth Social network that he had sent a message to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, offering to discuss Iran's nuclear program. On March 27, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that a response had been dispatched via Oman. According to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Tehran rejected Washington's request for direct talks but indicated a willingness to continue dialogue through mediators.

On March 30, the US president threatened to impose secondary sanctions on Iran within two weeks, if no progress was made in negotiations regarding its nuclear program. He warned that Iran would face unprecedented bombing if it completely refused to finalize a deal. In response, Khamenei asserted that he does not foresee a US military intervention as a viable option. However, he cautioned that if Washington attempts to incite a rebellion within the Islamic Republic, it would face a severe response.
