US to exit international center on ‘investigating’ Russia’s actions in Ukraine — NYT

Washington will officially announce this decision today, the sources said

NEW YORK, March 17. /TASS/. The United States has decided to withdraw from the so-called international group "investigating" actions by Russia during the special military operation in Ukraine, The New York Times reported, citing sources.

According to them, employees of the US Department of Justice earlier notified their European counterparts on this. Washington will officially announce this decision today, the sources said.

The US joined the aforementioned "initiative" in November 2023, under former US leader Joe Biden. The US President Donald Trump administration justifies the decision to withdraw from this group with the need to redistribute federal spending, the newspaper’s sources noted.

According to them, the US Justice Department is also scaling back cooperation with Ukraine on "investigating" Russia’s actions.

Earlier, Trump said that he sees good prospects for the Ukrainian conflict to reach a resolution. The US president noted that he intends to conduct a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on March 18.
