US Treasury Secretary finds it too early to talk about American business’ return to Russia

Scott Bessent assured that US President Donald Trump is working hard to resolve the conflict in Ukraine

WASHINGTON, March 7. /TASS/. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent believes that it is too early to speak about the return of American companies to the Russian market.

Speaking live on CNBC, he assured that US President Donald Trump is working hard to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. When asked if he can imagine that American companies will return to Russia in the next couple of years Bessent replied:

"Again: the situation is very fluent, and everyone is going to jump to the next thing that there is definitely a peace deal [on Ukraine]. President Trump wants a peace deal. He is working hard and he acknowledges that you have to speak to both sides. Behind the scenes he is negotiating just as hard with President Putin, but you cannot negotiate with him if you don’t speak to him,"

On February 24, US President Donald Trump said talks between Russia and the US about the settlement in Ukraine and economic cooperation are going very well. According to his post on the Truth Social platform, he and Putin are in "serious discussions" on how to settle the conflict in Ukraine, as well as on "major economic development transactions which will take place between the United States and Russia.".
