Beijing authorities urge people to stay at home due to coronavirus outbreak

Liu Xiaofeng urged the people to seek medical help if they had the slightest symptoms

BEIJING, November 24. /TASS/. Municipal authorities in the Chinese capital of Beijing urge the city’s residents to stay at home due to a major coronavirus outbreak, Deputy Director of Beijing's Center for Disease Control and Prevention Liu Xiaofeng the said at a briefing on Thursday.

"There is a need to reduce public activities and people’s movement between the city’s districts, as well as to use flexible working hours and online learning," he noted.

The official called on Beijing residents to refrain from leaving their districts of residence unless absolutely necessary and take protective measures when going out. Besides, Liu Xiaofeng urged the people to seek medical help if they had the slightest symptoms.

The Chinese authorities have pursued a zero-tolerance approach to COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic. Beijing’s new cases have surged recently with about 1,500 new patients identified for the third day in a row. More than 10,600 cases have been recorded since the beginning of November.
