VATICAN, March 7. /TASS/. Pope Francis, hospitalized with double pneumonia, has recorded a brief audio address to believers.
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers for my health from the Square, I accompany you in my thoughts," the 88-year-old pontiff said in a weak voice, noticeably breathless. "May God bless you."
The 88-year-old pontiff has been receiving treatment at Rome’s Gemelli hospital since February 14 after being diagnosed with double pneumonia. Since February 22, he has had four episodes of acute respiratory insufficiency. He undergoes non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night.
According to the latest report, his condition has stabilized. The prognosis, however, remains guarded.
The record was published to refute speculations that the pontiff is unconscious. Vatican sources said earlier that the pontiff was "eating normally" and even drinks coffee for breakfast.
