US suspending aid to force Kiev to engage in talks — French politician

According to Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, it is necessary to ensure the demilitarization of Ukraine within the framework of the settlement to make the country a buffer zone between Russia and the EU

PARIS, March 4. /TASS/. The suspension of US military aid to Ukraine is the only way to stop the conflict and force Vladimir Zelensky to take part in talks, a French politician said.

"This is the only way to stop the conflict and force Zelensky to take a seat at the negotiating table," Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, the leader of the Debout la France party and a former member of the National Assembly (the lower chamber of the French parliament), said during a Sud Radio broadcast.

According to him, it is necessary to ensure the demilitarization of Ukraine within the framework of the settlement to make the country a buffer zone between Russia and the EU. "We need to do in Ukraine what should have been done 20 years ago: a neutral demilitarized zone," the politician said.

Nicolas Dupont-Aignan pointed out that Zelensky is trying to buy time, "dragging the Ukrainian people into total chaos." "It is necessary to reach a peaceful settlement, which is not impossible," the politician emphasized.

On March 3, Reuters reported, citing a White House official, that US President Donald Trump had ordered a halt to all military aid deliveries to Kiev. Later, a Pentagon spokesman confirmed this information to TASS. According to him, the suspension affects all US military equipment that is not currently in Ukraine, including weapons delivered by air and ship and awaiting further transportation in Poland's transit zones.
