The piece states that the US leader was unimpressed by Starmer's "desperate appeal" for a stronger American commitment to Ukraine's defense after the conflict. It highlights that the British prime minister did not attempt to persuade Trump to offer security guarantees for Kiev but merely urged him to support European efforts - an appeal that was nonetheless rejected. Politico underscores that the firm stance of the Washington administration served as a "sobering preview" for European allies ahead of Trump's meeting with Vladimir Zelensky.
