Minerals deal to lay foundation for stable US-Ukrainian relations — Trump

The American taxpayers will now effectively be reimbursed for the money poured into helping Ukraine, US President said

WASHINGTON, February 28. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump believes that agreements on Ukrainian mineral resources will help to lay the foundation for stable relations between Washington and Kiev.

"The minerals agreement will provide the basis for a more sustainable future relationship between the United States and Ukraine, and thus stimulate the long term prosperity that will help the Ukrainians rebuild their country," he said at a joint news conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the White House.

"It's really very good for Ukraine, and very good for us," Trump added. "The American taxpayers will now effectively be reimbursed for the money and hundreds of billions of dollars poured into helping Ukraine."

Previously, Trump confirmed that Zelensky would arrive in Washington on February 28 to sign a deal on Ukraine's minerals, among other matters. Zelensky has so far refused to sign the document, insisting that it should include security guarantees for Ukraine. At the same time, Trump and Zelensky seriously disagree on how Kiev should compensate for the funds spent by Washington to support Ukraine.
