Lula says Brazil gave hard no to Scholz when he asked for weapons for Ukraine

Earlier, the Brazilian president remarked that "if Vladimir Zelensky had been wiser, he would have advocated for a diplomatic solution to the conflict rather than a military one"

BUENOS AIRES, February 20. /TASS/. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attempted to purchase weapons from Brazil for the Ukrainian military to continue the conflict with Russia, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated. He added that the Brazilian government will not sell arms to countries that seek to kill Russian citizens.

"I remember that [German] Prime Minister Olaf Scholz visited us on January 30, 2023, and tried to buy Brazilian weapons to hand over to Ukraine," Lula da Silva said during a press conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, broadcast on the Brazilian government's YouTube channel. "I will not sell weapons for the purpose of killing Russians or anyone else."

According to Lula da Silva, Brazil will maintain a neutral stance. Allies of Kiev will not receive Brazilian weapons. "Brazil will not sell the weapons you need because I am in favor of peace," he emphasized.

Earlier, the Brazilian leader remarked that "if Vladimir Zelensky had been wiser, he would have advocated for a diplomatic solution to the conflict rather than a military one." The Russian authorities have consistently asserted that supplying weapons to Ukraine will not diminish Moscow's resolve or alter the course of its special military operation.
