TEL AVIV, December 10. /TASS/. The Israeli Air Force has attacked more than 250 military targets in Syria since the change of power in that country, Galei Zahal radio reported.
According to the report, the targets included dozens of Syrian Air Force fighter jets, dozens of anti-aircraft missile systems, weapons production and storage facilities, and stockpiles of ground-to-ground missiles.
"This is one of the largest offensive operations in the history of the [Israeli] air force," Galei Zahal quoted a defense source as saying.
Syria’s armed opposition units started a large-scale offensive on government troops in the Aleppo and Idlib governorates on November 27. By the evening of December 7, they seized several large cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Deir ez-Zor, Daraa, and Homs. On December 8, they entered Damascus while government troops withdrew from the city. Bashar Assad resigned as president and fled the country.
On December 8, Israel took control of the Syrian side of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, encountering no resistance. According to Netanyahu, the 1974 separation of forces agreement with Syria is no longer valid because Syrian troops left the area after the change of power in Damascus. Also, reports started to come in about Israeli airstrikes on Syria, with the Israeli military providing no comment so far.
