NATO sees no changes in Russia’s nuclear posture that would require response — Stoltenberg

The secretary general accused the Russian President of "dangerous and reckless" nuclear rhetoric, which, in his opinion, was allegedly voiced even before the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine

BRUSSELS, April 4. /TASS/. NATO reaffirms that a nuclear war could not be won and must never begin, and the alliance sees no changes in Russia’s nuclear posture that would require a response, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Tuesday.

"We have made it clear again and again that a nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought, [but] NATOO remains a nuclear alliance, and that’s the central part of our deterrence and defense. And, of course, we closely monitor, what Russia does, and so far, we haven’t seen any changes in Russia’s nuclear posture that requires any changes in our posture. But we remain vigilant, we monitor closely what they do, and we will take the necessary steps to asway ensure that we have credible deterrence for all allies," Stoltenberg said, answering a question about Russia’s deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

He accused the Russian President of "dangerous and reckless" nuclear rhetoric, which, in his opinion, was allegedly voiced even before the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.
