Vucic advises EP to address EU’s problems, not issue anti-Russian resolutions

On Wednesday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which Russia is referred to as a "country sponsoring terrorism"

BELGRADE, November 24. /TASS/. Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic has advised the European Parliament to focus on high inflation and energy problems, rather than resolutions against Russia.

Asked at a news conference in Belgrade on Thursday about the European Parliament’s resolution describing Russia as a "state sponsor of terrorism" and urging Serbia to immediately join the resolution, Vucic replied: "We are able to make decisions on our own, and we understand our country’s needs well enough. My congratulations to them. I see that they have already made their countries and peoples happy with such high inflation, such high energy bills and such a large number of closed industrial facilities. We will continue to listen to everything we are being told, we will show great respect, but we will be making decisions in the interests of our own people and the Serbian state."

Vucic recalled that the European Parliament also demanded that Serbia recognize the independence of Kosovo and Metohija.

"Should we introduce sanctions against Russia, we would be approvingly patted on the back, but the next day they would put forward another resolution emphasizing the need to recognize Kosovo," he said.

The European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday adopted a resolution in which Russia is referred to as a "country sponsoring terrorism." The text of the document was published on the advisory body’s website. The adopted resolution "recognizes Russia as a sponsor of terrorism and a state that uses means of terrorism." The EP resolutions have no legal force and are advisory in nature, but are widely used in the EU’s media and political environment of the EU to promote and disseminate specific political viewpoints.
