CSTO chief sees risks of broadening conflict amid NATO’s support for Ukraine

According to Stanislav Zas, NATO has been beefing up its military presence in Eastern Europe and upgrading its military infrastructure, while bringing it closer to the western borders of the CSTO’s area of responsibility

YEREVAN, November 23. /TASS/. Massive support for Ukraine by NATO member countries could broaden the conflict, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas said on Wednesday.

Addressing a joint meeting of the Foreign Ministers Council, the Defense Ministers Council and the Committee of the CSTO Security Council Secretaries, he said, "Massive support for Ukraine from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and its allies creates risks of a broadening conflict, through the involvement of other nations, too."

According to Zas, NATO has been beefing up its military presence in Eastern Europe and upgrading its military infrastructure, while bringing it closer to the western borders of the CSTO’s area of responsibility. "Naturally, this creates additional challenges, for our organization as well," he warned.
