Erdogan proposes sending Ukrainian grain to poorest countries — Putin

On July 22, a package of documents was signed in Istanbul to solve the problem of food and fertilizer supplies to world markets

ASTANA, October 14. /TASS/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested redistributing grain exports from Ukraine in order to send them to the poorest countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters on Friday.

"He (Erdogan - TASS) has taken an active role in organizing the export of grain from Ukraine. However, unfortunately, this grain is either going in small volumes or not going at all to the poorest countries through the UN, but that's another question. We discussed that also, and during our talks yesterday, he spoke in favor of somehow redistributing the flow of this grain and, above all, sending it to the poorest countries," the Russian President said.

"It is the UN Secretary General who should work on this, I know that he is working, but he is not succeeding in everything," Putin added.

On July 22, a package of documents was signed in Istanbul to solve the problem of food and fertilizer supplies to world markets. One of the agreements regulates the procedure for the export of grain from the Black Sea ports controlled by Kiev.

Created by Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) in Istanbul is designed to inspect ships with grain in order to prevent arms smuggling and to rule out provocations. The grain deal expires in November.

Speaking at a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, Putin noted that almost all the grain exported from Ukraine went to the EU countries, and not to the poorest countries.
