G7 warns of ‘severe consequences’ if Russia uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine

"We deplore deliberate Russian escalatory steps, including the partial mobilization of reservists and irresponsible nuclear rhetoric, which is putting global peace and security at risk," the statement reads

BERLIN, October 11. /TASS/. Leaders of G7 states (the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, the US, France and Japan) warned that a use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine will have severe consequences, according to the joint statement, published by the German cabinet press office after an online G7 meeting Tuesday.

"We deplore deliberate Russian escalatory steps, including the partial mobilization of reservists and irresponsible nuclear rhetoric, which is putting global peace and security at risk. We reaffirm that any use of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons by Russia would be met with severe consequences," the statement reads.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his televised address earlier that Western states resorted to "nuclear blackmailing" in response to the Russian special military operation by encouraging Kiev’s shelling of the ZNPP and stating the acceptability of the use of nuclear weapons. The President underscored that Russia is ready to use all available means to protect its territorial integrity.
