Lukashenko discloses why NATO bound to step up pressure on Belarus

Massive NATO drills near Belarus’ borders are "reconnaissance", which is meant to help the US-led military bloc familiarize itself with a "possible future theater of military operations"

MINSK, May 26. /TASS/. NATO will crank up pressure on Belarus through troop deployments in neighboring countries due to escalating tensions in Ukraine, President Alexander Lukashenko said on Thursday.

"We will feel military pressure through Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia - from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s troops deployed there - to support the fighting in Ukraine and due to the escalation there," according to the transcript of Lukashenko’s comments published on the president’s website.

"In the current situation [Belarusian] troops like never before must be ready to adequately respond to any military encroachments on Belarus," the president said, addressing the Defense Ministry.
