G7 ready to help Western Balkans to reduce dependency on Russian energy resources

Heads of G7 foreign ministries also reaffirmed their commitment "to the European perspective of the six Western Balkan countries to ensure the security, stability and prosperity of the region

The G7 group of nations (the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, the US, France and Japan) intend to help Western Balkan countries to reduce their dependency on Russian energy supplies, according to G7 Foreign Ministers’ Communique released following a three-day meeting in the Wangels municipality in the north of Germany.

"We must continue to help Western Balkans to reduce their dependency on Russian hydrocarbons and vulnerability to economic coercion," the document said.

Heads of G7 foreign ministries also reaffirmed their commitment "to the European perspective of the six Western Balkan countries to ensure the security, stability and prosperity of the region," as well as welcomed some Western Balkans stand on the situation in Ukraine, including introduction and implementation of anti-Russia sanctions. "We urge Serbia to do the same," they noted.
