Serbian president describes conflict in Ukraine as global rather than regional

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics

BELGRADE, May 6. /TASS/. The situation in Ukraine is not a mere regional conflict, it is a global one, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday.

"We are now witnessing what may be called the third world war, but anyway, we are witnessing a global conflict, no doubt, <…> rather than a regional or local conflict, as some would like to picture it," he said in a televised address to the nation.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country. Following this step, the West imposed tough anti-Russian sanctions.
