G7 to step up support to Ukraine — statement

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics

BRUSSELS, March 24./TASS/. The G7 nations will step up support to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, says a G7 leaders’ statement following a summit at NATO’s headquarters in Brussels on Thursday.

"We will step up our support to Ukraine and neighbouring countries. We will furthermore collaborate in our efforts to bolster democratic resilience and defend human rights in Ukraine and neighbouring countries," the statement said.

G7 is resolved in its support to the Ukrainian people. "We thank all those who are already providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine and ask others to join," the statement stressed.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed Russia had no intention of occupying the country, the operation was aimed at the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine. In response, the US, the EU, Britain and a number of other countries announced sanctions against Russian individuals and entities.
