Russia’s Safiullin clears opening round of 2023 ATP Paris Masters tennis tournament

Roman Safiullin advanced to the 2nd round of the tournament with a straight sets win over Alexandre Muller of France

PARIS, October 30. /TASS/. Russian tennis player Roman Safiullin cleared the opening round of the 2023 ATP (the Association of Tennis Professionals) Paris Masters Tournament, which kicked off on Sunday in France.

Safiullin advanced to the 2nd round of the tournament in Paris with a straight sets win of 7-6 (7-4); 6-3 over Alexandre Muller of France. The Russian player’s next opponent is World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.

The 2023 Paris Masters tournament is an ATP Masters 1,000 event and is being played on indoor hard courts at the Accor Arena in Paris between October 30 and November 5. The tournament offers 2.779 million euros (over $2.9 million) in prize money.

The tournament’s reigning champion is Holger Rune of Denmark. Notable Russians to win the tournament in Paris include Marat Safin (2000, 2002, 2004), Nikolai Davydenko (2006), Karen Khachanov (2018) and Daniil Medvedev (2020).
