UEFA should launch probe into dust-up between Russian, Ukrainian footballers in Turkey

Earlier in the day, UEFA ruled to fine the Futsal Association of Ukraine (FAU) 20,000 euros for the misconduct of the country’s fans during the UEFA Futsal Euro 2022 tournament a year ago

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) should launch a probe in connection with the scuffle that took place between Ukrainian and Russian footballers at a hotel in Turkey’s Antalya, a senior Russian lawmaker told TASS on Friday.

"UEFA correctly punished the Ukrainian Futsal Association," Chairman of the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev said. "We need to be principled and unbiased and the offenders must be punished."

Earlier in the day, UEFA ruled to fine the Futsal Association of Ukraine (FAU) 20,000 euros for the misconduct of the country’s fans during the UEFA Futsal Euro 2022 tournament a year ago. The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) said in its statement that "Provocative, offensive chants" were heard coming from Ukrainian football fans during the match.

"Now UEFA needs to deal with what happened in Turkey, find the instigators and punish them," Svishchev said, speaking about the recently reported fight between Russian and Ukrainian footballers in Turkey.

The Baza Telegram channel reported on Tuesday that a brawl broke out between players from Russia’s Shinnik Yaroslavl FC and Ukraine’s Minai FC started at the Royal Seginus Hotel in Turkey’s Antalya, where the sides were staying during their training camps. The hotel management later told TASS "that the situation is calm and there are no problems whatsoever."

Commenting on the alleged incident, the Russian Football Union (RFU) noted on February 14 that it was the job of the organizers of the training camps to provide security for the teams and ensure their safety.
