MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. An explosive device detonated in an ATM at a bank in the Sviblovo shopping mall in northeastern Moscow, emergency response services told TASS.
"Preliminary findings indicate that an explosion caused by an unidentified device caused damage to the ATM. A man had placed the device there some time before the incident," the agency source said.
The press service of the capital's Interior Ministry's main department later reported that police officers detained a man suspected of committing the crime after reviewing video surveillance records.
"During a set of operational measures, officers of the North-Eastern District criminal investigation unit of the capital used outdoor surveillance cameras to establish the identity of the man born in 2005," the agency source said.
"A criminal case under Article 213 of the Russian Criminal Code (hooliganism) has been initiated," the press service added.
"According to the preliminary version, the ATM was damaged by the explosion of three firecrackers," law enforcement agencies told TASS.
"There is no Ukrainian trace in the actions of the detained man," law enforcers added. The man ignited firecrackers and placed them in the bill acceptor before fleeing, as seen in the footage shared on the capital's prosecutor's office Telegram channel.
The incident resulted in no casualties. The police stated that an investigation team is on the scene, working to clarify the circumstances of the event and conducting necessary operational and search measures. Law enforcement agencies informed TASS that, according to preliminary information, the ATM might have been blown up by a man who was deceived by fraudsters who convinced him to commit the crime. In such cases, fraudsters often pose as law enforcement officers.
