MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Russia’s child mortality has declined by 16.7% between 2019 and 2024 to 40.5 per 100,000 children of the appropriate age, while mortality from external causes tops other causes only among adolescents aged 15-17 and stands at 59%, said Deputy Health Minister Yevgenia Kotova.
"The mortality rate of children aged 0-17 years per 100,000 children of the corresponding age is 40.5, [according to data for] 2024," Kotova said in a presentation at the Congress of Pediatricians of Russia with international participation.
According to the presentation, in 2019 this figure stood at 48.6 per 100,000 children - over the 5 years this figure decreased by 16.7%. She also noted that there is currently a reduction in child mortality in all age groups.
She said mortality from external causes exceeds other factors only in the group of 15-17 years - 59% versus 41%, while in infants under one year of age it accounts for 5% of cases, in the group of 1-4 years - 30%, 5-9 years - 36%, 10-14 years - 46%.
