Russia creates conditions for showing its films abroad

According to Alexander Alimov, the festival is an example of engaging in cultural diplomacy

MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. Russia’s Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Culture are working together to create structural and legal conditions for screening Russian cinema abroad, Alexander Alimov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations, said on Tuesday.

"We even came up with a self-invented term, 'cinema diplomacy.' We are closely cooperating with the Russian Ministry of Culture. We are advancing the cinema diplomacy, working together and under the guidance of the Russian Ministry of Culture and helping the Roskino organization and the Russian Cinema Fund to create structural, legal and other conditions for showcasing Russian cinema abroad, in our foreign offices and at national venues in certain countries. This work is ongoing, and we are thrilled to take part in it," Alimov told TASS at a press conference dedicated to the 23rd The Spirit of Fire International Debut Film Festival to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk from March 5 to 9, 2025.

According to Alimov, the festival is an example of engaging in cultural diplomacy. " We have supported [the festival] and will continue to do so. This dialogue is important regardless of geopolitics. We managed to hold the festival in far more challenging geopolitical conditions, but our actions are not guided by this factor when it comes to cultural and humanitarian diplomacy. On the contrary, this is something that exists regardless of geopolitics," Alimov added.
