Hainan's Sanya to host marine economy innovation forum on August 23-25

Nine thematic sessions and five side events are planned in addition to opening ceremony and keynote address

HAIKOU /China/, August 15. /TASS/. The administration of South China's Hainan Province will host the 2nd International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum in the city of Sanya on August 23-25, Sanya Daily reported.

According to the newspaper, the organizers include the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The forum is supported by the Hainan Department of Science and Technology, the Administrative Center for China's Agenda 21, the Sanya People's Government, UNESCO, and the provincial marine department.

In addition to the opening ceremony and keynote speech, the organizers have planned nine thematic sessions and five side events. The Deep-Sea Technology Innovation Conference will be held in parallel with the forum.

This large-scale event will be held in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City. More than 230 organizations from 20 countries, including Russia, will participate. A total of 400 experts and scientists will attend the forum. The forum will focus on developing marine energy and related industries. The main goal is to stimulate the promotion of innovative cooperation, intensify the process of exchanging experience and ideas, and strengthen universal solidarity for the sake of common development.

The forum will be held under the theme "Gathering Wisdom in the Deep Sea, Sharing the Blue Ocean". The main objectives of the event are to provide a high-level communication platform to promote international exchanges in science and technology in the implementation of deep sea projects, deepen the dialogue in the relevant field among relevant government agencies, research centers and knowledge-intensive enterprises, and strengthen practical cooperation.

Specifics of the Sanya Innovation Forum

According to the organizers, the agenda of the event will be more intensive than last year. It will focus on the problem of symbiosis of science and technology with industrial potential. In addition to the development of marine resources, it is planned to discuss the problem of modernization of specialized equipment, issues related to stimulation of marine economy, promotion of cooperation in the financial sphere. Thematic exhibitions, competitions and research projects will be organized.

Experts will discuss the latest news on archaeological findings northwest of Hainan, where shipwreck sites have been discovered. A separate subforum is planned for this purpose, which is expected to have a positive impact on the dialogue on maritime civilization.

In addition to scientists from Russia and China, the event will be attended by American, South Korean, Japanese, Indonesian specialists and representatives of other countries. They will make presentations that will help stimulate cooperation through interdisciplinary projects. One of the most important events of the forum will be the signing of an agreement between Hainan University and UNESCO, which should become the basis for expanding the sphere of international exchange in the field of deep sea research and stimulate the intensive growth of Hainan Free Trade Port.

Finally, the forum will present the practical results of cooperation in these fields. At the opening ceremony, it is planned to release a document consolidating the consensus among the interested participants. It is expected that a number of strategic cooperation agreements will be signed and the winners of the competitions planned during the event will be awarded, which will "help strengthen the concentration of international innovation resources".

The First International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum and the Deep-Sea Science and Technology Innovation Conference were held in Sanya on October 24-25. The main topics discussed at the events included deep-sea research, offshore oil and gas, and mineral resource development.
