HAIKOU /China/, December 22. /TASS/. The 4th Hainan International Film Festival (HIFF) taking place in Sanya City held an international dialogue of masters of staged photography. This was reported by the Sanya Daily newspaper.
According to the paper, the event was attended by former president of the American Society of Cinematographers, Dutch cameraman, director and producer Kees Van Oostrum. China was represented by cinematographer Luo Pan. The dialogue lasted more than two hours and was held online.
Kees Van Oostrum and Luo Pan also answered questions from the audience, which was mainly composed of young people.
As the Dutch filmmaker famously well versed in staged photography pointed out that good films are made on the basis of "a carefully selected story". The shots in the film are created in such a way that the well-conceived atmosphere "grabs the viewer's attention from the first moment". According to him, a good photographer, when capturing key moments, always considers these important details in his work.
"What matters is not the number of shots taken during each film shoot, but the pursuit of excellence in photography," Lo Pan stressed. According to him, the most important thing for a master of staged photography is to reveal the essence of the film, "to give even more vitality to its individual shots."
Hainan Film Festival
The 4th Hainan International Film Festival runs from December 18-25 in the southern coastal city of Sanya. The organizers have accepted more than 3,700 applications for the screening of films from 116 countries.
Some 11 feature films, 8 documentaries and 10 short films were selected for the main competition program, according to the latest information. The festival's Golden Coconut Award will be presented in categories such as Best Picture, Best Director, Special Jury Prize, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Techniques, Best Documentary and Best Short Film.
HIFF is recognized as one of the top four film festivals in China and was held for the first time in December 2018. World-renowned actors and directors such as Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp and Nuri Bilge Ceylan participated. The 2021 event was scheduled for December 5-12, but did not take place due to anti-COVID restrictions.
