SANYA, Oct. 4. /TASS/. Authorities in the southern Chinese province of Hainan held a series of celebratory cultural and tourist events to mark China's National Day and the weeklong holiday on October 1. This was reported by the Haikou Daily newspaper.
The region's administrative center, Haikou City, hosts major events around major attractions and along major tourist routes. A series of performances were held in the historic city center and on the ancient Qilou Old Street in honor of the 73rd anniversary of the Foundation of the People's Republic of China, and Haikou residents and guests were also able to visit food festivals, taste local delicacies and take part in open handicraft classes organized by various workshops in the city.
In honor of the national holiday, Sanya resort held similar activities for tourists. The city authorities also decorated the streets with national flags. As the newspaper notes, special attention is being paid to anti-epidemic measures.
China's National Day, celebrated on October 1, is one of China's most important national holidays. This year, the Chinese government will hold a national holiday from October 1 to 7, which is often called the "Golden Week" for catering companies, movie theaters, entertainment centers and tourist agencies.
