St. Petersburg’s weekly hospitalization rate drops by nearly 17%

The number of recoveries significantly exceeds the number of cases

ST.PETERSBURG, February 9. /TASS/. The number of patients hospitalized with coronavirus in St. Petersburg last week dropped by nearly 17%, the city’s coordination council for countering the COVID-19 spread reported.

"The daily hospitalization rate has significantly dropped. During the sixth week 16.8% fewer patients were hospitalized versus the fifth week," the council stated.

St. Petersburg’s hospitals, which were earlier equipped for coronavirus patients, are returning to normal work. In 17 city and eight federal medical organizations there are 11,950 beds for patients with COVID-19 and pneumonia. More than 40% of beds are available in coronavirus facilities.

According to the council, the number of patients who sought medical assistance with a positive COVID-19 test grew 6.3% last week, while the total tally of active patients decreased. "This is related to the fact that the number of recoveries in absolute terms significantly exceeds the number of cases," according to the report.

Over the past day, St. Petersburg confirmed 1,551 coronavirus cases, what is equivalent to the figures seen in November. Since the start of the pandemic, St. Petersburg has registered 346,366 coronavirus cases, ranking second among Russian regions after Moscow. A total of 249,376 people have recovered and 10,122 have died.
