AI to open new chapter in human history — Putin

The Russian leader pointed to the fact that humanity is now dealing with something that has colossal computing capabilities, advanced programs schooled in every piece of information, in knowledge obtained across the entire global Internet network

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said there is no doubt that with the introduction of artificial intelligence into daily life, humanity is opening a new chapter in its existence.

"Of course, with the introduction of artificial intelligence in science, education, healthcare and all spheres of our life, humanity is starting a new chapter of its existence. This is obvious," he said at a conference on AI.

Putin emphasized that the development of so-called large-scale language models and generative artificial intelligence is particularly important now. "These are such systems that allow you to create images and texts. Such directions were outlined just a few years ago, but in just one year since our last meeting they have become ubiquitous and developed," he explained, noting that experts call what is going on now a revolution, a technological shift, a cardinal breakthrough in the development of artificial intelligence. "I have already said that this is, in general, a new page in the development of mankind," he reiterated.

Putin pointed to the fact that humanity is now dealing with something that has colossal computing capabilities, advanced programs schooled in every piece of information, in knowledge obtained across the entire global Internet network. "The widespread use of this technology is already an everyday reality. To put it bluntly, not everything works perfectly yet, but the model is constantly improving, fulfilling both applied and creative tasks. Generative artificial intelligence can already code, make detailed drawings and is gradually beginning to be used in the design of structures and buildings, reducing the time of searching for molecules to create the best medicines, making movies, music and poems. I would like to emphasize that these are just some of the areas where the machine's capabilities are equal to, and in some cases surpass, human capabilities," the president concluded.
