Russian watchdog tests Zaporozhye NPP staff’s preparedness for emergencies

The drills were carried out in the presence of the International Atomic Energy Agency observers, deployed at the facility

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision has conducted a series of drills at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP) to see how well its personnel is ready to respond to potential emergencies, the watchdog said.

The watchdog "checked the personnel’s readiness for emergency situations at ZNPP," the service said in a statement.

The drills were carried out in the presence of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) observers, deployed at the facility.

"Radiation levels at the facility are within the norm. No security flaws have been detected," the federal service said.

The ZNPP, located in Energodar, has six power units with a total capacity of 6 GW. It is Europe‘s largest nuclear power generating facility. At the end of February 2022, the facility was taken over by Russian forces. Since then, Ukrainian army units have periodically shelled both residential areas in Energodar and the plant itself using drones, heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers.
