MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, at a meeting with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, reaffirmed support for Havana's demand for an immediate and complete end to the US economic and energy blockade and called for Cuba to be removed from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, the Russian Foreign Ministry said following their meeting on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
"Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed unwavering support for Havana's legitimate demand for an immediate and complete end to the US trade, economic and financial blockade, which has recently been extended to the energy sector as well. He noted the need to remove friendly Cuba from the notorious US list of so-called state sponsors of terrorism and condemned the extraterritorial nature of unilateral restrictive measures imposed against the Island of Freedom," the ministry said.
The statement noted that the meeting reaffirmed the sides' commitment to continuing dialogue and cooperation to strengthen the Russian-Cuban strategic partnership, ensure global and regional security, and build a fairer multipolar world order based on respect for state sovereignty and countries' right to choose their own development path.
"In their traditionally open and trust-based manner, the foreign ministers held a constructive exchange of views on current issues of bilateral cooperation, discussed certain aspects of the regional agenda and agreed to further coordinate their positions at international platforms, primarily at the UN," the ministry added.
