Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia in May to be eventful — Putin

"The president of the People’s Republic of China will be our main guest, and we will have an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and our interactions within the framework of various international institutions," the Russian leader underlined

MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping will have a full agenda when he comes to Russia in May, beyond just attending the celebrations in honor of the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Opening the talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the Kremlin, Putin said the top diplomat had arrived in Moscow to prepare for the Chinese leader’s upcoming visit.

"We will prepare a good, eventful schedule. I hope that it will not be limited to taking part in the celebrations," the Russian president said.

"The president of the People’s Republic of China will be our guest of honor, and we will have an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and our interactions within the framework of various international institutions," Putin continued, naming the UN Security Council, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS as examples of institutions where Moscow and Beijing are successfully working together.

Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said in February that Xi Jinping had accepted Russia’s invitation to attend the May 9 celebrations in Moscow dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, and, in turn, invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to China in early September, for celebrations to honor victory over Japan and the end of World War Two. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov later confirmed that preparations were underway for both visits.
