MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon on his party’s convincing victory in the parliamentary elections in early March.
Today, the Russian leader is meeting with the president of Tajikistan in the Kremlin.
"You had an election on March 2. The party that you lead has won a convincing victory," Putin said. "This again confirms that the people of Tajikistan support you. We very much hope that your course towards good-neighborly friendly relations, strategic partnership relations between Tajikistan and Russia also finds support among the citizens of the republic."
"I hope," the Russian president began, and then immediately corrected himself: "I do not hope, no, I am certain that we will continue to work together in this spirit."
Rahmon's ruling People's Democratic Party won with almost 52% of the vote and 12 of 22 mandates.
