Western attempts to Ukrainize G20 agenda fail — Lavrov

The G20 as a whole retains the role of a platform, a dialogue between old and new centers of power, the Russia's top diplomat noted

JOHANNESBURG, February 21. /TASS/. The West has failed in its attempts to Ukrainize the agenda of the Group of Twenty (G20), only draining the time and energy of its members with this scheme, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following the G20 foreign ministers' meeting.

"The G20 as a whole retains the role of a platform, a dialogue between old and new centers of power. We spoke in favor of maintaining the economic profile of this association, as it was supposed and agreed upon at the very beginning of its creation in 2008, without politicizing the G20 agenda, as our Western colleagues have been trying to do in recent years, seeking to Ukrainize the agenda. These attempts have always fallen short, but they drain the nerves and energy of the participants, especially the sherpas, of course," said the minister.
