Sandu regime may seize Moldavan power plant in Transnistria — Russian Foreign Ministry

Maria Zakharova noted that "under such a scenario, the Russian peacekeeping presence in the region will be jeopardized"

MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. The regime of Moldovan President Maia Sandu is seriously considering the scenario of a forceful seizure of Moldova's power station in Transnistria, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

"The Sandu regime plans to exploit the energy crisis in the country to forcefully address the Transnistrian issue," the diplomat stated. "They unequivocally blame Russia for the cessation of gas supplies and are seriously considering seizing the Moldovan power plant in Transnistria by force. The SVR (Russian Foreign Intelligence Service - TASS) thoroughly discussed this matter," the diplomat added.

"It is clear that under such a scenario, the Russian peacekeeping presence in the region will be jeopardized, and the residents of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic will find themselves in the position of actual hostages. Eventually, the escalation could lead to grave consequences and the emergence of yet another hotbed of instability in Europe. This is what Sandu is preparing the country for. For what? We should ask her some questions," the spokeswoman concluded.
