Russia tells Israel that Palestinian issue can’t be resolved by force — Lavrov

When we communicate with our Israeli counterparts, we try to get across the idea that attempts to solve everything by force, without any alternatives, are a dead end, he said

MOSCOW, August 31. /TASS/. Russia in its communication with Israel says the Palestinian issue can’t be resolved by force, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with RT television.

"When we communicate with our Israeli counterparts, we try to get across the idea that attempts to solve everything by force, without any alternatives, are a dead end," he said.

According to the minister, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said publicly that "what he is concerned about in not the establishment of a Palestinian state, but the security of Israel as a state."

"This is essentially a statement of refusal to implement the UN decision. This is a very sad development," the minister said. "It is especially sad that Washington is completely indulging in any Israeli decision."

According to Lavrov, the US is blocking any agreements in the UN Security Council that would lead to a full and permanent ceasefire.

"Washington is regularly supplying arms to Israel, and these arms are being used for further violence against the Palestinian people, where more than 40,000 civilians have been killed over the 10 months of the operation since October 7 last year," Lavrov said. "This is a frightening figure. The methods of collective punishment of the Palestinians for the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas, which we condemned, are no less criminal.".
