Top Russian security official sounds alarm on erosion of global arms control system

Nikolay Patrushev noted that the actions of Washington, London and Brussels had devalued the work of many international organizations, including OSCE, the Council of Europe and certain United Nations agencies

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. The international arms control system has been seriously undermined and is disintegrating, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev warned.

At a meeting in Moscow with counterparts from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) nations, he pointed to the global risks stemming from the West’s activities. "The international system of arms control has been undermined," the Russian Security Council secretary noted.

Patrushev also said that the actions of Washington, London and Brussels have devalued the work of many international organizations, including the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of Europe and even certain United Nations agencies.

"This is largely because, in a number of situations, our countries fail to speak with one voice on international platforms and provide sufficient support to each other," Patrushev said, addressing his counterparts.
