Peskov calls for heeding Russia’s concerns to stop escalation in Ukraine

"There should be repentance of the past eight years of cynicism and ‘thimble game,’ when Germany, France, and Ukraine played thimbles with the Minsk agreements," Dmitry Peskov said

MOSCOW, January 20. /TASS/. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has called on foreign counterparts to repent of their cynicism and turn an attentive ear to Russia's concerns in order to stop the conflict in Ukraine.

"Russia’s concerns must be listened to. It is crucial to internally roll back [the situation], I would say, to the end of 2021, when Russia called for discussing its concerns at the negotiating table and when Russia was absolutely rejected. Of course, there should be repentance of the past eight years of cynicism and ‘thimble game,’ when Germany, France, and Ukraine played thimbles with the Minsk agreements," Peskov said on Friday in response to a question about what should be done to prevent a further escalation of the conflict.

As the Kremlin official noted, now these countries have to pay their bills. According to Peskov, they ought to realize the cynicism and the negative consequences of their own game, which "they played by deceiving Moscow, deceiving Donbass and trying to plot a more terrible fate for them."

"This is what Russia prevented from happening," he summed up.
