LUGANSK, May 24. /TASS/. The Lugansk People's Republic is ready to take part in a court martial for Ukrainian nationalists from the Azov battalion, LPR’s human rights commissioner Viktoria Serdyukova told TASS on Tuesday.
"The Lugansk People's Republic, if necessary, will take part in a court martial for the Nazis from Azov, who committed atrocities in Donbass for eight long years," she said. "Today, we are assisting law enforcement agencies in collecting evidence of crimes committed by Azov and other nationalist battalions that operated in the territories of the LPR that were occupied by Kiev."
The commissioner said the republic has complaints to file. She said she was referring to hundreds of documented testimonies of people who fell victims of the Azov nationalist battalion. "These crimes will definitely be given a legal assessment," she said.
Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, earlier said that Ukrainian nationalists should face a court martial in what could be an international trial. He said documents were already being prepared, including a charter.
Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on May 20 that Russian troops had fully liberated the Azovstal plant where the remnants of a Ukrainian grouping in Mariupol were holed up, including nationalists from the Azov battalion. A total of more than 2,400 people laid down arms at the plant, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
