‘They’re capable of anything stupid’: Kremlin slams Western sanctions against Putin

Dmitry Peskov added that "no one could imagine a situation when sanctions are imposed against heads of state"

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Western nations have gone beyond any common sense when they imposed sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

Commenting on the anti-Russian sanctions and restrictions, the Kremlin spokesman admitted that he could not even imagine such a situation in the relations between Russia and Europe several year ago. But, "no one could imagine a situation when sanctions are imposed against heads of state," he added.

"There cannot be anything like that. It goes beyond any sort of common sense. After that, after the sanctions were imposed against our president, it looks like they are capable of doing any stupid thing," Peskov said in an interview with the Moscow.Kremlin.Putin program on the Rossiya-1 television channel.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country.

Following this step, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and several other countries announced sanctions against Russia individuals and legal entities, including personal sanctions against President Putin. In response, Russia expanded its blacklist of EU officials who are banned from entering Russia.
