Materials from biolabs in Ukraine may be used by terrorists - Russian diplomat

"In any case, the risk that these materials will be stolen and used for terrorist purposed or will be sold on the black market is high," he stressed

UNITED NATIONS, March 11. /TASS/. Moscow warns about the risks of the use of materials from biolaboratories in Ukraine for terrorist purposes, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said on Friday at a Russia-initiated UN Security Council meeting on the United States’ military biological programs in Ukraine.

"The analysis of the materials reveals that more than 140 containers with ectoparasites of bats were taken from a biolaboratory in Kharkov. We know nothing about what happened to these hazardous biomaterials later," he said, adding that it is not ruled out that these materials will spread across Europe without any international control.

"In any case, the risk that these materials will be stolen and used for terrorist purposed or will be sold on the black market is high," he stressed.

According to the Russian diplomat, several thousands of serum samples taken from patients, mostly Slavs, were taken from Ukraine to the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), a biomedical research facility administered by the US Department of Defense, under a pretext of testing coronavirus medicines. "All know how meticulous the West is about sharing biomaterials of Western nations’ citizens. And it has good reasons for that, since theoretically, bioagents capable of targeting various ethnic groups may be developed," Nebenzia noted.
