MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. Russia has confirmed its readiness to support the evacuation of Chinese citizens from Ukraine, a Russian Foreign Ministry statement issued on Saturday following a meeting between Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and China's ambassador in Moscow Zhang Hanhui said.

"An exchange of views on the situation around Ukraine took place. The Russian side expressed gratitude to the Chinese partners for a balanced position on the events in this country. They confirmed their readiness to provide comprehensive support for the evacuation of Chinese citizens who are in the combat zone in Ukraine," the statement reads.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the parties emphasized the high efficiency of foreign policy interaction between the two countries. "Agreements have been reached on maintaining close working contacts on all issues of interest," the ministry added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 launched a special military operation in Ukraine following a request for assistance from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He said Moscow had no plans for an occupation of Ukrainian territories. The sole purpose is the country’s demilitarization and denazification.

After that the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other states announced that they would impose sanctions against Russian legal entities and individuals.
