European Parliament’s report on Russia ‘intervention in internal affairs’ — Duma Speaker

Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a report from Lithuanian MEP Andrus Kubilus repot urging the EU to review its relations with Russia

MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. European Parliament’s adoption of the report calling for tougher policy towards Russia is an unfriendly step as well as an attempt to interfere in Russia’s affairs and exert pressure on its citizens, Russian State Duma Speaker said Thursday.

"We will not tolerate such resolutions," the senior lawmaker said.

He noted that the paper that urges EU member not to recognize the outcome of the Russian election was adopted even before Russian citizens cast their votes.

"[Russian citizens] will decide on who to put in power on their own - pressing them is unacceptable. We will do everything to protect our country from unfriendly actions, because we understand that this is an attempt to stop Russia’s development," Volodin said.

Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a report from Lithuanian MEP Andrus Kubilus repot urging the EU to review its relations with Russia.

In particular, the report’s author states that the EU must "counter the security threat", "combat Russia’s interference in the affairs of the EU and the ‘Eastern Partnership’," carry out a "selective dialogue with the Kremlin" and "support the democratic society."

Among other things, the report states that EU countries must "be ready to not recognize the outcome of the upcoming State Duma elections," if "violations of democratic procedures and the international law" are registered.
