Dam bursts in another spot, intensifying flooding in Russian town

The flooding situation is getting worse, Orsk Mayor Vasily Kozupitsa said

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Flooding in the Russian Ural Mountains city of Orsk has intensified as rising water from a nearby river burst the dam in another spot, according to the Emergency Situations Ministry.

"There was another breach of the rock dam in Orsk," the ministry told TASS.

City Mayor Vasily Kozupitsa said, "The flooding situation is getting worse."

He called on residents in some neighborhoods to evacuate promptly.

The flooding happened after a dam near Orsk, a city near the Russian border with Kazakhstan, burst overnight into Saturday. Rising water from the Ural River flooded 4,400 homes, according to the latest data. The bodies of two people were found in the flooded area, but they weren’t killed by the emergency, officials said. The authorities declared a regional-level emergency situation and are urging residents to evacuate.
