Bank of Russia not discussing key rate lowering today

The Board of Director of the Bank of Russia kept the key rate at 21% per annum at its first meeting in 2025, as expected before

MOSCOW, February 14. /TASS/. The Bank of Russia considered today keeping the key rate as is or increasing it, rather than lowering, Central Bank chief Elvira Nabiullina said at the press conference after the Board of Directors’ meeting.

"No, we have not discussed the rate cut. We discussed two variants - keeping the rate and increasing the rate. You saw the level of rate lowering; probably you paid attention to our key rate forecast, and the interval we gave anticipates the possibility of reducing the rate in this year, and the possibility, we do not rule it out, increasing the rate. Everything will depend on stable trend forming," Nabiullina said.
