Damascus airports to continue operating on special permits until December 24 — dispatchers

The Syrian airspace is now open for transit flights without landing at the country's airports

MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. Damascus International Airport will continue to dispatch and receive flights only under special permits until the evening of December 24, according to a NOTAM distributed by flight dispatchers.

"All flights to and from Damascus airport are suspended, except for flights with special permits from the civil aviation authority," the message said. The restrictions will remain in place until 8:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. GMT) on December 24.

The Syrian airspace is now open for transit flights without landing at the country's airports. On December 14, for example, Lebanon's Middle East Airlines began using the air corridors over Syria on routes to Iraq and the Persian Gulf states.

Syria’s airports have been closed since December 8.
