Yandex to put self-driving cargo trucks on Russian highways in 2025

The company plans to launch refrigerated trucks at the turn of 2025

MOSCOW, December 10. /TASS/. Russian tech giant Yandex plans to roll out self-driving cargo trucks using the Shacman X6000 platform next year, with the delivery vehicles set to hit the road on the M-11 (Moscow - St. Petersburg) and M-12 (Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan) highways in 2025, according to a report from the Shacman company presented at the Comtrans 2024 international exhibition of commercial vehicles.

The autonomous truck is designed to carry dry cargo. The company plans to launch refrigerated trucks at the end of 2025.

In October 2024, the first Yandex self-driving truck carried a load from Moscow to Tula along the M-4 Don highway.

"Self-driving transport is meant to solve the problem of driver shortages and increase the efficiency of cargo transportation, all while enhancing road safety," Yandex said. The company is conducting self-driving trials in Moscow, Innopolis, and Sirius.

In August 2024, the Russian government legally allowed self-driving vehicles to move along the M-12 highway and the Central Ring Road. These trucks are now transporting cargo along the M-11 highway.
