Trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan up 21% yoy in January-February

DUSHANBE, March 21. /TASS/. Trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan increased in January-February 2024 by 21% year-on-year in in monetary terms and exceeded $285.6 million, the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan reported.

According to the agency’s report, which is available to TASS, imports from Russia to Tajikistan during this period amounted to $273.2 million, exports to Russia totaled $12.4 million. Among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russia ranked first in terms of trade volume with Tajikistan. Kazakhstan ranked second with trade turnover of about $214.8 million, having decreased in annual terms by about 5%.

In January and February, Tajikistan also observed a significant increase in trade turnover with Uzbekistan - about $105.8 million, which is 1.8 times more than the same period in 2023, and Belarus - $26.4 million (an increase of 2.2 times in annual terms).

Among all the countries with which Tajikistan traded, Russia ranked second after China. In the reporting period trade between Tajikistan and China amounted to $286.6 million, an increase of 41.5%. In general, Tajikistan’s trade in the first two months of this year with all countries exceeded $1.5 billion, which is 47.5% more than the same period last year.

At the end of 2023, Tajikistan’s trade turnover with other countries amounted to more than $8.3 billion, which became an all-time high. Last year, Russia became the main trading partner of the republic - trade turnover increased by 2.5%, amounting to $1.8 billion, which is also a record figure.
